Biography of Diane Chappalley

Diane Chappalley, born in Switzerland, is a painter whose work depicts imagined fantasies. The scenarios in her paintings have roots in reality and reflect her personal history. Translations of sensory experiences and suspended moments of minutiae are visual responses that divert the viewer from the everyday monotony.

Drawing inspiration from intimate events and often the Swiss countryside where she grew up, her work extends beyond this trajectory and emerges from the legacy of art history. Diane offers a contemporary approach and aesthetic to our tradition, with a romantic theme within the landscape.

Diane Chappalley has held exhibitions internationally in the UK, Switzerland, and Hong Kong. She graduated with a master’s degree from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2017, where she was awarded the UCL Dean’s List prize. She continued her journey with a bachelor’s degree at the City and Guilds of London Art School, where she received the Chadwyck-Healey Prize for Painting in 2015. Her work has been selected for prestigious awards, including FBA Futures at the Mall Gallery in London and The Marmite Painting Prize at Block 336 in London and the Highlanes Gallery in Ireland. In 2017, she completed a residency at the Academy of Visual Arts, HKBU in Hong Kong, and more recently, she received the Alice Bailly Prize in Switzerland.
